Staff

Maria Chase, CSR - Head Client Service Representative

I joined the staff at Advanced PetCare of Oakland in September 2013 and have been in the veterinary field for 11 years. I have loved animals my whole life and grew up around dogs, horses, guinea pigs, hamsters and the occasional injured wildlife that I would bring home. I am extremely passionate about my job and I'm always eager to learn more to better help the clients in our community care for their pets. Just like any other loving pet parent I love talking about my pet, so when you are visiting APCO you may hear me say a thing or two about my sweet dog Fiona. I am also the mother of two grown children, Heather and Justin and one granddaughter Kylie.

Sarah Youngert, CSR & VA

Sarah has been a part of our team since mid-2014, and she worked as an intern before officially joining the team. She earned her education from Oakland Technical Campus and Oakland Community College where she made the Dean’s List. She enjoys working at the practice, loving the opportunity to learn new things and be challenged every day. Her own pets include two Shih Tzus named Snickers and Sassy, two DSH cats named Jerry and Daisy, a Fresian horse named Zander, two bearded dragons named Lizzy and Smog, as well as fish and frogs. Some of her hobbies include reading, watching Grey’s Anatomy, and studying. Because she is a full time student and has a part time job, she doesn’t have much extra time for hobbies!

Shaina Osentoski, LVT

Shaina interned at a sea turtle and dolphin hospital in Florida before she joined our team in 2013. She loves working with different species of animals and believes that educating pet owners on how to keep their pet-children healthy and happy is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Her love for animals follow her home also where she has her own pets: two Jack Russells named Zoey and Cookie. One of the neatest things Shaina ever did was snorkel with the manatees in Clearwater, Florida!

Sarah Skodak, LVT - Head Tech

Sarah loves helping healthy animals live long, happy lives, and also loves making a difference in the lives of sick animals. Since she joined our team in 2013, Sarah has enjoyed this aspect of her job the most! She has two pets of her own: Max, a Dachshund; and Sampson, a DSH. When she isn’t working, Sarah loves being outdoors, whether she is biking, walking with Max, or enjoying snow sports.

Michele Norkus-Comby, LVT

Michele has been with our practice since November of 2016. She has an associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology and General Studies, and she uses what she learned every day. Michele loves being part of such a great staff, and helping the animals she meets get on the road to wellness. She has many pets, including Twyla – a shepherd/beagle mix), Mr. Phillips – a Boston terrier, Peanut Crackerjack and Winter – DSHs, and Santos and Old Man Bill – quarter horses. In her free time, Michele enjoys playing soccer and horseback riding.

Kristine Lee, VA - Hospital Manager

Kristine, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Biopsychology from the University of Michigan, has been a part of the Advanced PetCare of Oakland team since 2012. She enjoys working with our team members and especially making them laugh with her sarcasm and direct sense of humor. When she isn’t working, she may be found running with her dogs (Casey MJ who is a Maltese mix and Lucy JJ who is a Sheltie mix), spending time with family (she has extended family all over the country) and her husband, and she also loves traveling. She enjoys going on adventures all around the world!

Amanda Cornwall, Veterinary Assistant

Amanda has worked at Advanced PetCare of Oakland as a veterinary assistant since April of 2008. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a focus in illustration in 2016. Art and Veterinary Medicine are her main interests. Her hobbies include reading, baking, being outdoors, and hiking.

Amanda Martinez, LVT

Amanda, who has 2 years of experience in emergency veterinary medicine before joining our team, is a 2013 graduate from Baker College in Clinton Township. She enjoys being a part of the Advanced Pet Care of Oakland team where everyone supports each other and works together like family. In addition to her veterinary education, Amanda also has studied psychology and is a certified health unit coordinator. Her love for animals follows her home where she has three pets: Kiki and Grace, who are cats, and Champ, who is a pitbull. When she isn’t working, Amanda enjoys crocheting, and she’s also learning to play the piano.

Zach Corll, VA

Zach is on his way to completing his education to be a veterinary technician at Macomb Community College. Placing on the Dean’s list for two terms so far, we’re certain he’ll make us proud going forward. As an energetic person who’s passionate about animals, Zach’s favorite part about working at our practice is being around so many other like-minded people. Other than animals, Zach loves sports and is a big Ohio State fan – sorry Sparty and Blue, he grew up in Ohio. His grandparents still live in northeastern Ohio, but his mom, dad, younger brother and sister, and a handful of cousins are near in Michigan. While Zach is too busy for pets of his own, he enjoys his sister’s and brother’s dogs, a Cavachon and an American Alsatian.

Megan Ostrowski, VA

Megan, whose true passion lies in working with wildlife, has been a part of the Advanced PetCare of Oakland team since 2011. She has interned in the ungulate department of the Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon where she had the great pleasure of working with giraffes, rhinos, hippos, zebras, East African Crowned Cranes, and many more amazing creatures. Here at our hospital, she enjoys helping out with all of our exotic patients. Her Bachelor’s degree in zoology, which she earned at Northern Michigan University where she graduated Cum Laude, prepared her for all of the great things she’s had the privilege of working on since. When she isn’t working, she enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities and spending time with her Rottweiler mix named Hank.

Debra Suri, CSR

Debra comes from a large family, and she loves interacting with other families who bring their pets in to our practice. She enjoys working with pets, and providing excellent customer service to pet owners. Debra has an associate’s degree in Business Administration from Oakland Community College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She’s married with two children – Adam and Erica – and three fur-children –a Yorkie named Chewie, a domestic yellow and white cat named Leo, and a Siamese Calico mix named Mia. In her free time, Debra loves to cook, read, take a hike, pedal on a bike, and paddle in a boat.

KC Orr, CSR

KC joined our team as a receptionist in 2016. She has a large, loving family that includes 2 sons, 1 daughter, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and 13 nieces and nephews! She also shares her home with 4 fur babies: Chloe, a 15-year old cat, Maddie, a 9-year old Border collie mix, Baby, a 3-year old cat, and Larkin, a 1-year old Shar Pei mix. KC’s favorite part of working with us is our great staff, and getting to see all the wonderful pets that come through our doors. In her spare time, KC loves toiling in her garden, making crafts, watching her children play sports, and watching Redwings hockey, U of M hockey, and football.

Melissa Wagner, CSR

Melissa joined our team in the summer of 2017, and her excitement for pets is contagious! She has three cats named Hatchet, Charlie and Luna. Her favorite part about working at our clinic is getting to know our clients. Melissa truly has a passion for pets and people and she takes pride in recognizing families by their companion animals. If you catch Melissa at home, you’ll find her sipping tea and reading in a forest of house plants. She loves the country and in her spare time, she likes to garden and get her hands dirty in her barn. Come visit Melissa at Advanced Pet Care of Oakland for a warm hello and exceptional service.

Expo, House Cat

Expo is our seven-year-old cat who lives at Advanced PetCare of Oakland. He earned his name because we had him up for adoption at the Waterford Business Expo until Dr. Cornwall fell in love with him and decided to keep him! Expo’s favorite way to spend the day is lying around at the hospital and watching everyone else work.
